BAUHAUS

PARADE

Inspired by Oscar Schlepper’s “Triadic Ballet” and Rebecca Horn’s “Body Extensions”, my group aimed to create a celebration using recycled materials that mimicked the playful and interesting shapes of Schlepper’s iconic contribution to the Bauhaus movement. With our costumes made, we led our class in a parade like fashion through the Boston Common, attracting looks and followers until we came to a stop above the pond in Boston’s Public Garden.

Making My Costume

Though very unfinished in this video, I sewed pink hand towels into a large plumbing skirt (complete with a skirt cage made of paper bags), a helmet made from an old lampshade, and arm extensions taken from an old curtain rod. It’s this crafty spirit that made Bauhaus parade so joyful, anyone could join in.
